The Genealogies of Genesis

leave a comment »

Most people skip over biblical genealogies. This person begat this person. But putting those ages into a chart reveals some interesting things.

This chart must use an arbitrary starting year. I chose 4004 B.C. to show the dates from the traditional fundamentalist perspective.

Patriarch Years Lived Age When Begat Son Time Span Lived
Adam 930 130 4004 – 3074
Seth 912 105 3874 – 2962
Enosh 905 90 3769 – 2864
Kenan 910 70 3679 – 2769
Mahalalel 895 65 3609 – 2714
Jared 962 162 3544 – 2582
Enoch 365 65 3382 – 3017
Methuselah 969 187 3317 – 2348
Lamech 777 182 3130 – 2353
Noah 950 500 2948 – 1998
Flood 2348
Shem 600 100 2448 – 1848
Arphaxad 438 35 2348 – 1910
Shelah 433 30 2313 – 1880
Eber 464 34 2283 – 1819
Peleg 239 30 2249 – 2010
Reu 239 32 2219 – 1980
Serug 230 30 2187 – 1754
Nahor 148 29 2157 – 2009
Terah 70 2128 –
Abram 175 (Gen. 25:17) 100 2058 -1883
Isaac 180 (Gen.35:28) 60 1958 -1770
Jacob 1898 –

As you can see, according to the bible, Abraham lived at the same time as his ancestors Noah, Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah, Eber, Peleg, Reu, Serug, Nahor, and Terah. Eleven generations sitting around the table!

In fact, Noah’s son Shem, would have lived into the time of Jacob!

Using the Bible’s chronology, Adam was “created” when civilizations had been thriving in Mesopotamia, Egypt, China and elsewhere for thousands of years and homo sapiens had been roaming the planet for 100,000 years.

Sam Harris discusses liberals and Muslim fundamentalism

leave a comment »

Sam Harris, author of End of Faith and Letter to a Christian Nation, discusses the threat from Muslim extremism and how liberals do not recognize that threat. Harris talks about how the West is at war with Muslims such as the ones who think that cartoonists should be beheaded because of cartoons.

Two important points that Harris makes

  • Liberals don’t know what it is like to be a fundamentalist.
  • Larger number of Muslims are radical than most people in the West realize.

Bill O’Reilly and Ann Coulter’s Tirades Against Atheism

leave a comment »

Bill O’Reilly: “The atheists are just stupid for making people angry”.

Is O’Reilly being stupid ever time he makes people angry? Then that would be all the time.

Ann Coulter: “This country was founded explicity on a belief in god.”

Really? Is that in the U.S. Constitution? Where exactly is that?

Ann Coulter: “It doesn’t even fit within the public forum definition of what speech must be tolerated. So, it is the government officials being idiots to even allow these atheist signs”.

Where are you getting this Ms. Coulter? Why wouldn’t this type of speech be tolerated? Because it’s not Christian?

Bill and Ann are intolerant and hateful. Then they try the switch-and-bait to put their characteristics on their opponents.

Amazing! It will come as a shock to Beck that “up” is into the atmosphere and “down” is towards the center of the Earth. I  think  creationists know more about science than this.

Really disgusting. I can’t believe the ignorance of  people who think
the Catholic Church is so calm in modern times.

Condoms save lives. The Catholic Church kills.

RedState Confused on Troop Increases

leave a comment »

http://www.redstate.com/haystack/2009/12/03/struggling-to-muster-strength-for-supporting-obamas-afpak-strategy/

The Cheney doctrine of keeping the number of troops small so that they could be deployed quickly didn’t work in Iraq or Afghanistan. It took Cheney/Bush four years to admit the fact in Iraq to begin increasing the number of troops and they never did in Afghanistan. Obama is doing what should have been done in 2002.

The Cheney doctrine was a failure. The Republicans pushed out the only person with military intelligence in their administration – Colin Powell whose intelligent doctrine, known as the Powell Doctrine, was to use overwhelming force to get the job done.

RedState is wrong again. But I don’t think I’ve found one place where they are “right”.
